TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN PARK
Tunku Abdul Rahman Park is a state park located 3 km off Kota Kinabalu in Gaya Bay. Established in 1974 and named after Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, it spans 50 sq km and includes five islands—Gaya, Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik, and Sulug—along with their surrounding reefs and marine ecosystems. The park aims to protect island flora, fauna, and coral life. Geologically part of the Crocker Range, the islands were separated by rising sea levels after the last ice age. Manukan Island serves as the park’s main administrative hub, though each island has its own office.
