SALT TRAIL
The Salt Trail in Crocker Range, Sabah, is a historic 34–40 km jungle trek once used by the Dusun and Murut people to trade salt and other goods between remote villages and the west coast. The trail, which takes 2 to 4 days, passes through dense rainforest, steep hills, rivers, and traditional villages, offering a mix of adventure, culture, and biodiversity. Located within the Crocker Range UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, it is home to unique wildlife like Bornean gibbons and hornbills. Trekking the Salt Trail is challenging due to muddy paths, leeches, and high humidity, but it provides an authentic jungle experience and insight into Sabah’s indigenous heritage. Permits from Sabah Parks and a guide are required.
